100 small original textile works made from rescued and reclaimed cloth.

Right now, the wall holds 100 paper placeholders. As each piece is finished, one will come down and an original textile work will take its place.

We throw away an enormous amount of cloth.

The first rescue is mine.

In Canada alone an estimated 1.1 million tonnes of apparel were disposed of in a single year. Most of it ended up in landfill.

100 Rescues started with a simple idea: what if some of that cloth didn't need to be finished yet?

The materials I use have already had a life before they reach my studio. Old linens, worn clothing, discarded curtains and scraps of fabric. Some are faded, stained or worn thin. Some arrive with marks I could never recreate, and I don't try to.

I rescue these materials and make something new from what was already there.

I tear them apart, layer them, stain and paint them, then stitch them back together.

Eventually, each finished piece gets the chance to be rescued again.
